Review by Travis North

The 22nd anniversary of Schindler’s List has just passed so what better time than to watch some Nazisploitation. As a genre, it probably ranks fairly low on anyone’s respectability scale. Back in the day you would get weirder looks when renting these titles than if you asked for the latest porn release. At least that was my experience at the rental counter. There are only cursory excuses to try to be historical or educational. It’s all about wallowing in a notorious time period that is tailor made for exploitation and shock.

Most Nazisploitation titles run together in my head, between the similar plots and titles. In this case the title is fairly descriptive to help you. It starts with a trainload of women being sent to a temporary Nazi prison camp. It’s somewhat of a way station before they are chosen for their longer term assignments; labor camp, sent to the front lines to be a whore for soldiers, or picked to stay as part of a special section. One higher class prisoner grabs the attention of the sadistic commandant. He remembers her from before the war and how she rejected his advances. This of course isn’t going to make things easy for her. They play mind games as he tries to break her but she holds out until she can get her revenge.

SS_3 (1)

It follows some women in prison tropes, like a suck-up prisoner who gets in the good graces of the guards, and quickly abuses her fellow prisoners. This involves lesbian rape with forced cunnilingus while yelling “EAT ME!”. I should take a second to mention how hilarious some of the dialogue is. Lots of yelling of “sluts!” and “bitch!” and wild overacting. Of course it is hilarious. More Women In Prison clichés are included like stripping down, group showers, catfights, etc. What’s different is the extended scene of women having their heads shaved and getting their underbrush cleared, all in graphic close up. It was really unusual when the commandant rapes his male assistant. That’s a warning to anyone jerking it to the copious female nudity. It was hard to find screen grabs that didn’t contain some skin. What is missing from the Nazi camp formula is the expected medical experiments and gore. There are only a few bits of blood in this. That doesn’t make it any less dirty though.

While there are some good extras included; like interviews with the director and star, as well as a good history of Naziploitation (why did the Italians love these so much??), I have to ding this slightly due to the picture. As the credits started there were tell tale VHS tracking issues and heavy compression artifacts around the text credits. The image also looked a bit zoomed in. While the picture did improve a bit as the movie continued, it never gets to anywhere near the quality that some super obscure titles are getting these days. The extras help to not make this just some cheap cash-in.
