Review by James Klein

With a title like The Gestapo’s Last Orgy, one would expect a film overflowing with sex and violence in the most depraved way imaginable. Well dear readers, this film delivers the goods and although I have seen gorier Naziploitation films (the Ilsa series is still a bit more gruesome in the blood department) The Gestapo’s Last Orgy is pure filth and trash, a movie that could force it’s viewer to want to take a shower after witnessing this 96 minute sleazefest.

This Italian made shocker starts off as rather dull in a post-war setting.  A former German Gestapo Commandant (Marc Loud) meets his long lost love Lise (Daniela Poggi) at an old abandoned concentration camp. As the two make out and express each other’s love for one another, the Commandant questions why Lise brought them there after five years of when they saw each other last.

Caligula Reincarnated as HitlerThe film abruptly jumps to a flashback to when the war was at its peak. The Commandant is in charge of a special prisoner of war camp for female Jews, a camp made to service and entertain it’s German soldiers. In the first depraved act, the Commandant has all his soldiers get naked while watching photos of Jewish women who have now become animalistic creatures thanks to their “research”. In a scene that made me burst out laughing and yet turning my stomach at the same time, the soldiers witness photos of a naked Jewish woman covered in and eating…shit. While they watch these photographs, the men take their fingers and poke each other in the butt, with one actually farting. Yeah, I’m not making this up. Needless to say this had to be rewound several times, each time making me erupt in laughter.

Gestapo's Last OrgyThese German soldiers rape and torture the women constantly by not only them and their Commandant but by the bi-sexual second in command Alma (Maristella Greco) who feeds her dobermen pinchers menstruating Jews. In another sick scene, the German officers pour cognac on a naked woman and watch her burn while eating dinner, much to their pleasure. And of course an orgy breaks out once she is burned to a crisp.

Intervision's Gestapo's Last OrgyThe Commandant soon meets his match in Lise who shows no fear, no anger towards her tormentors. Fascinated and yet infuriated by her non-reaction, the Commandant tries everything to break her.  From rape to torture, they try everything to make her scream and beg for mercy. And much like the women that were shown in the pictures, Lise begins to change and starts to fall in love with her tormentor. She even pushes aside one of her fellow inmates who she befriended as she is about to be executed, begging for mercy.

Daniela LevyBasically you get exactly what you expect with this Naziploitation horror. It’s sick, depraved, ridiculous, and disgusting. But that’s exactly what the filmmakers intention was and because of this very reason, the film succeeds. It wants to shock and gross out its viewer. There are no redeeming merits aside from plenty of female flesh and some fake looking blood effects. I will say the performances, while dubbed, are decent with the actors actually trying their best. Is The Gestapo’s Last Orgy a film I would revisit anytime soon? Doubtful. But I will say it’s a movie that stuck with me and made me chuckle the more I thought about the ridiculous, violently over the top moments.

Gestapo Last OrgyIntervision’s DVD at first looked horrible as the cheap opening credits (it’s obvious that The Gestapo’s Last Orgy was not the original title. In fact, the film has been released under several titles, my favorite being Caligula Reincarnated as Hitler) fluttered along with the opening images. There is also some obvious print damage but as the movie continues, the colors got brighter and the image looked more crisp and clean. While watching the trailer that’s included on the DVD, it is actually amazing at how well this transfer looks. Get past the first five to ten minutes of the movie and the transfer will look pretty good, especially given it’s age.

Marc LoudAlso on the DVD is a rather long interview with film historian Dr. Marcus Stiglegger, who discusses the history of Naziploitation films from its roots, to its heyday, to its decline. For those wanting to know a littler bit more about this bizarre sub-genre, this is a very detailed and informative featurette.

It’s no shock that this film is still banned in the U.K. For those that thought Salo or Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS was too tame and are looking to take it up a notch, well The Gestapo’s Last Orgy…it is exactly what you think it will be.
